STRUCTURAL GLASS STAIRCASE, Chicago
A new glass staircase replaces an existing basic wood stair, connecting two levels of a penthouse residence. Structural glass is used for vertical panels, landings, and treads. Custom, stainless steel clips are used at support of landings and treads. The new glass stair allows light to pour deep into the home and creates a calming void in the space. Low-iron glass is used for improved transparency.
Public assembly load was used in design. A tread sample was load tested, for confirmation, during design.
