Koz Sowlat, SE – Principal

Koz Sowlat has served as chief structural engineer on several prominent Chicago buildings, including McCormick Place South Hall and Grand Concourse, the CORE Center, the new Prentice Women’s Hospital, University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, and Comiskey Park Modifications. Sowlat has served as chief structural engineer on several large projects with fast-track schedules, leading to high-quality completed buildings.

Sowlat has a Masters of Science degree and a Bachelor of Science degree, both in Structural Engineering, from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Sowlat began his career with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Chicago, in 1980. In the early Nineties, while with Epstein, Sowlat served as chief structural engineer for two large, Chicago, public projects.  In the mid-Nineties, Sowlat served as director of structural engineering at Perkins & Will, Chicago. From 1997 to 2003, Sowlat served as a Principal with Thornton Tomasetti, Chicago.

In 2004, Koz Sowlat, SE, and Rob Diebold, SE, established Sowlat Structural Engineers, Chicago; providing structural engineering for civic projects, light structures, and tall buildings.

 

 

 

Robert J. Diebold, SE – Principal

Rob Diebold has developed structural systems and has produced working drawings for a broad spectrum of buildings. Diebold has extensive experience with new construction, additions, investigations, repairs, renovations, expansions, exterior walls, and architecturally exposed structures. Diebold offers expertise at solving particularly complex challenges presented  by large structures, tall buildings, long spans, and heavy loads. Diebold is adept at providing peer reviews.

Diebold has a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture, a Masters degree in structural engineering, and an MBA, all from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Diebold began his career with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in 1984. In the Nineties, Diebold, while with Epstein, served as Project Engineer for McCormick Place South Hall, Chicago. From 1997 to 2003, Diebold served in leading positions at Thornton Tomasetti, Chicago.

In 2004, Rob Diebold, SE, and Koz Sowlat, SE, established Sowlat Structural Engineers, Chicago; providing structural engineering for civic projects, light structures, and tall buildings.
