UNI Dome Redesign, Cedar Falls, IA
The investigation and redesign of UNI Dome consisted of evaluation of design deficiencies and construction irregularities, related to a new roof that was installed in 1998. The UNI-Dome, originally built in 1974, was one of the first air-supported domes built in the U.S. In 1998, the UNI Dome received a new hybrid roof that was later determined to require major retrofitting. The UNI Dome investigation and redesign led to strengthening of long-span, two-way roof box arch trusses and joists. A glycol snow removal system was installed to reduce roof snow loads..
